WY NPS Yellowstone 13(11) - Pelican Bridge
This Western Federal Lands project is located in Yellowstone National Park east of Fishing Bridge on East Entrance Road (Hwy 20) over Pelican Creek. This is at the north end of Yellowstone Lake.
The existing bridge had been built in the 1930s requiring Pelican Creek to pass through a main opening and smaller culverts. The new bridge is a major improvement by spanning the wetland and allowing the creek to meander naturally through the landscape, as well as unimpeded wildlife passage. The new bridge is a 1,483-foot-long steel girder bridge. Approximately 1,500-feet of work bridge was installed alongside to access the work. Over 1,200 truckloads of material, including work bridge materials, were delivered from numerous locations on the West Coast including Springfield, Coos Bay, Los Angeles, and Olympia, to name a few. |
