Hamilton was the prime contractor on ADOT&PF’s first heavy civil CM/GC contract at the entrance to Denali National Park. This project included the construction of a new two-span, 230-foot deck bulb-tee girder bridge over Riley Creek, realignment of the Parks Highway, heavy pile driving, cast-in-place concrete, excavation, grading, paving, and drainage. Hamilton also added left and right turn pockets, and constructed a wider bridge with increased shoulder width for pedestrian and bicycle traffic.
The CM/GC contracting method resulted in extensive pre-construction communication with stakeholders to refine the project design most appropriate for the project area. During the planning process, our teams developed creative staging strategies to keep traffic moving during the busy summer season. To reduce overall impacts, Hamilton worked closely with the owner, Federal Highway Administration and the National Park Service on traffic management and scheduling throughout the entirety of the project. Collaboration during the pre-construction phase helped identify risks and specifically which permits were going to be required for construction – a huge contributing factor to the project completing a full season ahead of schedule. |
